Finance sits near the top of Britain’s list as firmly as industry does. Hedge funds, a trading firm and a fintech company appear beside chemicals, vacuum cleaners, online games and property. The captured Forbes dataset records 57 billionaires with UK citizenship; this list takes the 50 largest.
Each amount is Forbes’ estimate of net worth on 12 September 2026, shown in US dollars rather than pounds. A change in the exchange rate can therefore move a fortune even when the assets behind it are unchanged.
Who is the richest person in the UK?
Michael Platt, with an estimated net worth of US$20.9bn, according to Forbes’ real-time list as captured on 12 September 2026.
Citizenship, not residence
Forbes assigns each billionaire one country of citizenship, and this list follows that field. Some British citizens in it may live abroad, and some people based in Britain hold other passports and appear on other countries’ lists. Rich lists that count UK residents rather than citizens therefore include different names and a different order.
Money made in markets
Forbes describes nine of the fifty fortunes as coming from hedge funds, trading, finance, fintech or a stock exchange. Several rest on stakes in private firms, which have no daily share price. Forbes estimates those holdings from what it can observe, so they carry more uncertainty than a listed shareholding.
Relatives listed apart
Forbes sometimes lists relatives separately with identical estimates. Igor and Dmitri Bukhman, Simon and David Reuben, and Ian and Richard Livingstone each appear as two entries of the same size, as do Philip and Cristina Green. We keep the source’s choices rather than combining their fortunes ourselves.
What this snapshot shows
Michael Platt leads this captured list at approximately US$20.9bn. The entry at number 50, Mark Dixon, is approximately US$1.32bn. The first ten account for 51.5% of the sum of the fifty reported values. That share is calculated within this list; it is not a share of all wealth held by UK citizens.

There is always a story.
Near the top of the British list, finance and trading sit beside manufacturing and property. The estimates are dated 12 September 2026; where a firm is privately held, they rest more on Forbes’ judgement than on a share price.
